Staff and Departmental Development Unit

Tomorrow’s Leaders Leadership Development Programme

This 10-month programme is for more senior staff (typically senior lecturer or above and academic related staff on high grade 8, grade 9 or occasionally grade 10) who already have some management and leadership responsibilities, or have completed some prior leadership and management development.

It is designed to improve the University’s approach to succession management by providing a range of development options that will increase the pool of staff with the necessary generic leadership and management capabilities to take on a variety of senior management and leadership roles in the University, e.g. member of school management team, service area leader, head/deputy head of administrative function, head of school, pro-dean of faculty.

Deans and heads (academic and service) are invited to submit nominations, and selection for the programme is by steering group. The programme comprises 360 degree feedback, a personality profile, personal development planning, action learning sets, mentoring, learning resources, and six core workshops on leadership in a chamging HE context, strategic thinking, understanding and managing resources, leading change,  dealing with difficult conversations, and people and performance. Nominations for each programme are sought via Faculty Deans and Heads of Service in July. If you have an interest in participating in the programme please contact your Head of School/Service in the first instance or SDDU.

Tomorrows Leaders was shortlisted for the 2006 Times Higher Award for Outstanding Contribution to Leadership Development.
