Staff and Departmental Development Unit

Courses and workshops

The Research and Innovation Team of SDDU offers an extensive programme of development opportunities for researchers at all levels. More information about our provision for PhD researchers can be found on our PG Research student page.

Develop opportunities for staff are currently focussed into the following main areas:

Attracting research income
We offer a range of support for those applying for research funding. This support ranges from one-day introductory sessions to bespoke provision developed and delivered in collaboration with faculties and Research and Innovation Service.

In addition to these core programmes we offer bespoke, tailored provision, for example, we work
closely with colleagues in Research & Innovation Services and faculties, to support small groups    of researchers applying for specific funding schemes. These bespoke programmes run for several months and provide support throughout the whole funding application process.

To find out more about these funding programmes, or if you'd like to discuss any of our research staff provision, contact Dr Odette Dewhurst.

Company Director Programme
This is a development programme for directors and potential directors of University of Leeds spin-out companies.

Effective research student supervision
This suite of courses provides training for supervisors and internal examiners of research students.

Managing research projects
These programmes are aimed at research and academic staff who wish to develop their project management skills in a research context.

Presenting and publishing research results
We offer a range of provision for research staff focusing on different aspects of publishing research, including publishing in peer reviewed journals and publishing monographs. In addtion to this, we provide sessions focusing on writing style.

Research ethics and governance
We provide an extensive programme of courses for researchers covering: working with human participants, children, researching overseas, payment of research participants, nanotechnology, data protection, ownership & confidentiality in research and ethical review.
