Access and inclusion
We want to make sure that everyone can access and enjoy our events so please do let us know if you have any requirements.
OD&PL Staff responsible for helping with your access and inclusion needs
Please contact Organisational Development and Professional Learning (OD&PL) at least two weeks before the start of the event if you have a specific learning requirement or medical condition. Also make your needs known on the day to the tutor if appropriate.
Types of Access and Inclusion requirements
We will do our best to fulfil your requirements to allow you to enjoy our events to the full. Requirements may include, for example, dietary needs based on religious or medical grounds (please note that we do always offer vegetarian options), the need for a private room at times throughout the day, handouts in large font or Braille, handouts in advance, hearing loops (please state type), signers, high-back chairs or wheelchair access.
Please note that this list is not exhaustive and we will try to help with any requirement you may have.
Information on access to the Baines Wing offices
Access for wheelchair users from the main University entrance on Woodhouse Lane is through the archway in the building opposite the traffic barrier and up the ramp immediately in front of you. The entrance to the Baines Wing is by the first door on your right, before the entrance to the Great Hall.
In the Baines Wing all floors at ground level are ramped. Once inside the building, go straight ahead past the Healthcare Studies reception desk (on your right), turn left towards the coffee bar, then right and then left again. Go through the two sets of double doors, after which there is (immediately on your right) a short corridor, at the end of which (on the left) is a lift.
To reach the offices in rooms G10-G13a, press ‘up’ and, once inside (the doors close quickly), press the WG button (ground floor, West). From the lift go slightly left, and then through two single doors. Use the same lift, pressing the ‘down’ button, to reach Training Room 2 (LG37) and staff offices LG27 to LG36. From the lift go ahead and through the door on your left (at the bottom of the stairs), turn right and the offices are located on both sides of the corridor. There is a toilet on the ground floor near the lift entrance.
Emergencies and designated places of safety in the Baines Wing
The OD&PL offices have audible fire alarms situated in the corridors immediately outside them. In the event of an emergency such as fire, wheelchair users and those whose disability or medical condition precludes the use of stairs will be escorted by the Fire Warden to a place of relative safety and subsequently from the building.
Information on access to Seminar Room 1 (1.34) and Seminar Room 2 (1.35)
The Seminar Rooms are at the north end of Parkinson Court, on the first floor. Access for wheelchair users to Parkinson Court is from the rear of the building or Chemistry, Woodhouse Lane. There is a lift to the first floor at the north end of the Court by the Parkinson Court café. On the first floor turn right out of the lift and right again. Seminar Room 1(1.34) is on the left after the Cohen Computer Cluster and Seminar Room 2(1.35) is on the right.
Emergencies and designated places of safety in the Seminar Rooms
The Seminar Rooms have audible fire alarms situated in the corridors immediately outside them. In the event of an emergency such as fire, wheelchair users and those whose disability or medical condition precludes the use of stairs will be escorted by a member of staff to the Fire Warden place of relative safety and subsequently from the building.
